Mel Kobran Artist Post- Erik Johansson

Erik Johansson is a Swedish photographer who works mostly with photo manipulation. The main aspect of his work that I find interesting is the surreal quality all of his photos have. Some are more fantastical than others, but they all make the viewer do a double take to reconsider what they just saw.
This relates to my work in the way that I am trying to explore the concept of reality, and how malleable that concept is. Johansson's work also deals with the concept of deception, which is something I am really interested in working with. As the nice girl at the writing center put it being a "visual con artist."
Also, I generally do most of what makes my images "surreal" in the real world before the image is taken, whereas he does most of it in postproduction on the computer. I might look at his work as a guide for trying to experiment more with using photoshop as a tool.
